For the third year running Gama provided the Access Support for Secret Garden Party 2013.Thankfully the weather was kind and there was no repeat of the 2012 mud-fest! For those of you that have never been, SGP is a creative, colourful and eclectic mash up of music, theatre, art, healing and general merry making all set in the glorious Cambridgeshire countryside. This year there were a couple of welcome additions to the Party; a wonderful new swimming lake (with no steps!), and a chill out Marquee in the Accessible Camping Area which proved to be a great place to congregate with mates old and new.
Now I’d be lying if I said it was perfect! The viewing platform at the main stage had to be rebuilt and a few things (toilet, electric) etc. added at the last minute but after some tooing & froing we created a usable space. Also the age old complaint of the Wide Access toilets not being, how to put this politely… ‘accessible’ due to a lack of locks. Since SGP 2013, Gama has trailed a padlock at another festival which worked really well so we are looking to adopt that for SGP next year. Any other issues that arose will be bought up at the debrief with the Head Gardeners soon.
Secret Garden Party 2014
GAMA are pleased to announce that they will indeed be at Secret Garden Party again this year. We will be setting up camp in the usual place next to all the action but regulars will be pleased to know the car park has been moved closer! We have also enlisted the wonderful Jess to sign on our behalf although she won’t be signing performances so members of the Deaf community should still think about bringing a signer with them. SGP offer a free PA ticket so just get in touch with us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you wish to apply. You can also use this email address if you want any information about access for people with disabilities at SGP – just drop Seagh a wee line and she will answer any questions you may have.
